The drain log app for your Jackson-Pratt drain
If you go home with a drain after breast surgery, Dr. Perkins asks you to strip, empty, and record each drain four times a day. This free app keeps that record on your phone, adds up each drain for you, and tells you when it is time to call the clinic.
What the drain log app does for you
- Records each drain on its own, up to four drains, at breakfast, lunch, dinner, and bedtime.
- Adds up each drain's 24-hour total and counts the days since your surgery.
- Tells you when to call the clinic: when a drain has been in for at least 7 days and its output has been less than 30 mL in 24 hours for two days in a row, or when your drains have been in for more than 2 weeks.
- Keeps Dr. Perkins' instructions for stripping, emptying, and showering one tap away.
Putting the drain log app on your home screen
Do this on the phone you will use, before your first entry. Open the app first, then add it to your home screen from inside the app. If you add this page instead, your home screen will open these instructions rather than your log.
When your phone adds the icon, it shows a name box that says Drain Log. You can delete that and type any name you like. Whatever you type is the name under the icon on your home screen. Inside the app, the pencil next to the title lets you change the name at the top of the screen at any time.
A few ideas, or use your own:
- My drain log
- Drain diary
- Recovery log
- Mom’s drains
On an iPhone or iPad, in Safari
- Tap Open the drain log app on this page.
- Tap the Share button, the square with an arrow pointing up. If you do not see it, tap the three dots first.
- Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
- Delete the name Drain Log and type the name you want.
- Tap Add. Your icon, with your name under it, is on the home screen.
On an Android phone, in Chrome
- Tap Open the drain log app on this page.
- Tap the three dots at the top right of the screen.
- Tap Add to home screen. If you are asked to choose, tap Create shortcut. That is the choice that lets you type a name.
- Type the name you want.
- Tap Add. Your icon, with your name under it, is on the home screen.
The app shows these steps again the first time it opens, so you can follow along there. From then on, open it from the icon, not from this website.
Using the drain log app each day
The first time it opens, the app asks for the day of your surgery and how many drains you have, so it can count the days and add up each drain on its own. After that, each time you empty a drain, choose which drain it is, tap or type the amount in mL, and save. Your log stays on your phone: there is no account, nothing asks for your name, and the clinic cannot see it, so bring your numbers to your visit or print them from the app.
Dr. Perkins’ instructions for stripping, emptying, and showering are in the app under How to and on the after-surgery instructions page. For what needs a call, see when to call about your drain or phone the office at (208) 706-4650.
Where this comes from
The drain instructions and numbers in the app are Dr. Perkins’ own, from her drain care sheet and her JP drain output record, received 11 September 2026. The home screen steps describe Safari on iPhone and Chrome on Android as they worked in September 2026; phone makers move these buttons from time to time. The app was built for this practice by RC Surgical Consulting. It stores nothing anywhere except on your phone and sends nothing to the office.
