Programs that cover a mammogram in Idaho
Do not skip a mammogram over money. There is help, and using it is not a favor anyone is doing you.
- Idaho Women’s Health Check provides free breast and cervical cancer screening for women in Idaho who are uninsured and whose income is below 200 percent of the federal poverty level, through more than 250 providers across the state. Email WHC@dhw.idaho.gov or call (208) 334-5805. Program details.
- Susan G. Komen runs a breast care helpline and can point you to screening and financial assistance. 1-877-465-6636, Monday to Thursday 9am to 7pm Eastern and Friday 9am to 6pm Eastern. Se habla español. komen.org.
- Most insurance plans cover a screening mammogram with no copay. Coverage for extra imaging after a callback, or for supplemental MRI, is a different question and worth asking about before the appointment rather than after.
More help with transport, meals, housework, and costs during treatment is on the support page.
If something is found
The programs above cover screening. If a screening mammogram leads to a callback, a diagnostic mammogram, or a biopsy, ask the program or your insurer what is covered before the appointment rather than after, and know that Idaho Women’s Health Check can also connect women who are diagnosed through the program with treatment coverage through Medicaid. The support page lists help with transport, meals, housework, and costs during treatment.
